The men react to Jake's speech by lauging at him. They might have been laughing at him because Jake proably agree with the workers who had went on stirke, whom wanted to get a raise. The men might think that the workers who had stirke were stupid because along as their getting money it does not matter. And to Jake ot seem that the owners of the mills did not care because they hired people who came on trucks to work at the mills. You can understand what Jake is talking about when he talks about the lifestyle of the citizens that are on the streets.

In Portia's statement to her father "... I the only one of us that would come in this here house and sit with you like this". The word us is meant her, her husband  ( i believe that it is her husband) , and brother.

Her husband and brother do not visit Doctor Copeland because his comments are rude and they tend to hurt the husband and brother's feelings. This problem can be worked out if  Doctor Copeland does not say what is on his mind. In my view he does not think before he speaks.

Who a person is hould not be defined by race ehtnicity, regigious beliefs, political party. Aperson should be defined by their personality or what he or she likes or dislikes. Race, gender, or religion should not matters. Most times the persons who you sit down with and talk to with have the same views like you. Just that your background might be different from that person.

In America, racial strife should be eliminated. America should be a little bit like a Utopia. Because if everyone was living the same way, there would not be a problem about race, religion, nor ethnicity.

From these three quotes made by Jake Blout he is trying to tell people that he is different and that he knows it. Everyone is different, also that no one should be judge by their race. He is trying to repersent himself as the same person as everyone. Even thought everyone is from a different country and culture; in some ways everyone is equal.

What Jake means by "knowing" is clear. People think that they know everything, but in reality their knowledge is not the right knowing. To make it clear; their facts are not right. He chose to confide in Singer because Singer was the one to apaired if he was listening to Jake Blout speak.

What makes a person a friend is ability to trust that person with your deepest secret. Be able to have someone to be there when you are in trouble. You can be yourself around he/she without having to think if you look stupid or not in front of that person.

Singer and Spinos are not true friends, because Singer always have bailed Spinos out of jail. If you have to always be put into that situtation; that person is not really your friend, he/ she is using you. " Singer became very familiar with the procedure of the courts and he was in a cinstant state of agitation. The money he had saved in the bank was spent for bail and fines. All of his efforts and the money were used to keep his friend out of jail because of ....." (pg.8)

This situtation has never happened to me before.
